Apple Mac Server G4 The Apple Mac Server G4/500 DP (Gigabit Ethernet) features dual 500 MHz PowerPC 7400 (G4) processors each with the AltiVec "Velocity Engine" vector processing unit and 1 MB of backside cache. It shipped configured with 512 MB of RAM, a 36 GB or 72 GB Ultra160 SCSI hard drive (and corresponding PCI card), a 5X DVD-ROM drive, and a 2X AGP ATI Rage 128 Pro graphics card with 16 MB of SDRAM in a translucent "graphite" enclosure with a "fold down door" on the side that makes the system extremely easy to upgrade.

For all practical purposes, all models in the Mac Server G4 series are identical to another model in the Power Macintosh G4 series, but the server models often shipped with larger or faster hard drives and more RAM, and always with pre-installed server software. The Mac Server G4/500 DP (Gigabit), in particular, is based on the Power Macintosh G4/500 DP (Gigabit), but originally shipped either with a copy of MacOS 9.0.4 and AppleShare IP or MacOS X Server.
