The FastMac G4/550 (iMac) features a 550 MHz PowerPC 7410 (G4) processor with 1 MB of backside cache. FastMac circumvented the ROM-issue regarding processor upgrades (see FAQ), by retro-fitting an existing iMac logic board with a faster processor. FastMac allowed you to either remove your logic board and ship it to them to perform the upgrade or use their "Advance Exchange" program, where you provided a deposit of $150 US, an upgraded logic board was shipped to you for installation, and your deposit was refunded upon shipping your old board to FastMac. This upgrade is compatible with all slot-loading iMac G3 models with 350, 400, 450, or 500 MHz processors (with the exception of the iMac "500" (Flower Power/Blue Dalmatian) models. Supports both MacOS 9.2 and MacOS X. |
