This update of EveryMac.com features completely overhauled iMac specs and a comprehensively updated PowerBook G4 Q&A. A handful of Apple TV Q&As have been added as well, with the formal Apple TV Q&A scheduled to be launched some time after Apple ships the product.
Largely rewritten for readers who plan to use -- and upgrade -- a PowerBook G4 for years, the PowerBook G4 Q&A answers "How do you replace or upgrade the hard drive in the PowerBook G4 models?" and "Is it possible to add external SATA to the PowerBook G4?" along with dozens of other questions.
Among the additions made to the iMac specs pages, the most notable perhaps is that each now has details on the actual secondary display capabilities. Apple blocked the full video capabilities of many systems in firmware to protect sales of more expensive Macs, and the "official" information often is incomplete. Model numbers and more details covering the differences between configurations have been added as well.
Today's Discussion Q&A is "With the Apple TV scheduled to ship within days, have you decided whether or not you will buy one? Do you think Apple TV is more than worth the price to conveniently "stream" programming to your television from your computer? Do you think Apple TV is overpriced given its limited functionality, lack of ability to record programming, and lack of DVD support? Would you rather pay a bit more and just buy a Mac mini to connect to your HDTV despite its lack of HDMI? Why or why not?" Contribute your ideas.
In case you missed one, Q&As since the last major update include:
Additions & Changes:
Added newly formatted/overhauled specs pages:
Updated the PowerBook G4 Q&A.
Please note, as is stated at the bottom of every page, the estimated retail pricing is updated as systems are converted to the new format. Pricing for the dwindling number of used systems using the old format is woefully out-of-date, and will be brought up-to-date as systems are updated in the new format.
