March 13, 2012

This month, EveryMac.com features preliminary specs (and a handful of Q&As) on the all new third generation iPad and Apple TV with more details scheduled to be added after these devices ship. EveryMac.com's Ultimate Mac Lookup has been updated, too.

If you missed the last site update, EveryMac.com additionally has complete details on the education-only MacBook Air and preliminary compatibility information on the forthcoming OS X "Mountain Lion."

EveryMac.com's Ultimate Mac Lookup has been updated with new identifiers submitted by helpful readers. Thank you very much to those who continue to contribute information. It's always appreciated.

If you work for an educational institution and purchase a pack of education-only MacBook Air systems, please send in the serial numbers for EveryMac.com's Ultimate Mac Lookup. It is is believed that this model only can be differentiated uniquely on hardware and in software by this single, non-personal identifier. Consequently, your additions are important particularly. Thank you.

New Q&As:

In case you missed one, a selection of Q&As since the last major update include:

  • What are all the differences between the iPad 3rd Gen models? Which should I buy?
  • What are all the differences between the iPad 3rd Gen and the iPad 2? Is the iPad 2 worth the cost savings?
  • Which Macs are compatible with OS X 10.8 "Mountain Lion"? Which Macs are not compatible? Can incompatible Macs be "hacked" or upgraded to run OS X 10.8 "Mountain Lion"?
  • What are all the differences between the education-only "Early 2012" MacBook Air and the standard 13-Inch "Mid-2011" MacBook Air?

Today in Mac History:

If you weren't following along on social media, select dates in Mac History since the last major site update include the following hardware introductions:

  • February 16, 2000: The still loved (and expandable) "Pismo" PowerBook G3.
  • February 22, 1997: Vertegri unveiled the only attempt at a 604e-powered Mac clone portable.
  • February 28, 2006: The first Intel-powered Mac mini models.
  • March 2, 1987: The "Open Mac" Macintosh II. Hard to believe it's been 25 years!
