This update of EveryMac.com features a comprehensive overhaul of the "Macintel" Q&A and a complete update of the Resources section with new books, applications, and links.

The "Macintel" Q&A has been updated to include the original speculative answers as well as confirmed answers when applicable, new speculation on forthcoming systems, and an all new section covering the compatibility and performance of specific software programs running on Intel Macs.

Today's Discussion Q&A is "When do you think Apple will start shipping systems with Blu-ray drives?" Contribute your ideas.

In case you missed one, Q&As since the last major update include:

  • Will Apple support HD-DVD or Blu-ray on the Intel-based Macs?

  • What Intel processors are the "Mac Pro" likely to use?

  • Are there any third-party programs to run MacOS 9/Classic applications on Intel Macs?

  • Is QuarkXPress available as a "Universal Binary"? If not, when will it be released?

  • Is the 2 GB maximum RAM capacity for the MacBook Pro a true limit? Would it support 4 GB of RAM if I installed dual 2 GB SO-DIMMs?

  • What is the difference between the consumer and education-only iMac "Core Duo"?

  • Why doesn't Apple support MacOS 9/Classic on Intel-based Macs?

  • Is FileMaker Pro available as a "Universal" Binary? How fast is it on the Intel-based Macs?
