This update of EveryMac.com features a brand new Mac Pro Q&A and improved specs pages for the Power Macintosh G5 systems.

The Mac Pro Q&A answers "How fast is the stock Mac Pro in real-world tests compared to its predecessor? How fast does it run Photoshop?" and "Does the Mac Pro support standard PC video cards? Does it support SLI or Crossfire?" along with dozens of other questions.

Among the improvements made to the Power Macintosh G5 specs pages, the most notable perhaps is that it is now possible to determine which models have PCI or PCI-X slots at a glance. Numerous other enhancements have been made as well.

Today's Discussion Q&A is "What would you think about the prospect of future Apple notebooks offering a docking system to use with Time Machine? If Apple was to introduce a 'dock', what features would you like it to include?" Contribute your ideas.

In case you missed one, Q&As since the last major update include:

  • Are the CPUs on the Mac Pro upgradable? How are they mounted?
  • How do you upgrade the hard drives in the Mac Pro? How many drives of what type are supported?
  • Does the Mac Pro support standard PC video cards? Does it support SLI or Crossfire?
  • How much faster is the custom configured Mac Pro with 3.0 GHz processors compared to the stock Mac Pro? How much slower is the custom configured Mac Pro with 2.0 GHz processors?
  • How does the Mac Pro allocate lanes for the PCIe bus? What configurations are possible?
  • Which are the last Macs capable of running MacOS 9/Classic applications?
  • How do you upgrade the RAM in the Mac Pro? How much RAM of what type does it support?
  • Can the Mac Pro run Windows XP? What drivers are required?

Additions & Changes:

Added a brand new Mac Pro Q&A.

Added newly formatted/overhauled specs pages:

Added "Current Apple System Q&As" to the home page.

Added additional information regarding AirPort, Bluetooth, USB, and Firewire to the newly formatted specs pages.

Please note, as is stated at the bottom of every page, the estimated retail pricing is now up-to-date for Intel and G5-based systems using the new format, but the pricing for other used systems remains woefully out-of-date. The pricing will be brought up-to-date as systems are updated in the new format. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
