This update of EveryMac.com features complete specs on the Apple MacBook series, as well as a new CSS-based look and feel with dynamically updated features like "Recent Apple Systems" and "Most Read Q&As" to improve ease of use. The ports pages are available once again as well.

The new design takes advantage of the area provided by larger screens and uses larger text to make the site easier to read. However, it is still quite usable for those on 800x600 displays. It also has been painstakingly tweaked to ensure that it works for those still using older browsers like IE 5 for the Mac and IE 5.5 and 6.0 for that other operating system. Version 4 browsers are no longer supported.

Please note that older pages still use the smaller text size from the previous design and may "break" towards the bottom, ports pages often have broken links, and not all pages currently take advantage of the dynamic features. These fixes and enhancements will be made quietly in the upcoming weeks and months. Thank you for your patience.

The initial test of the new membership/forums system went well last week. If all goes as planned, new "blocks" of established users will be granted access each day for several days, and public access will be made available some time after that. Thank you for your continued support during this transition.

Today's Q&A is from Brian from Pensacola, FL, USA, who asks "Is there any way to externally cool a MacBook Pro?"

If you haven't already done so, please bookmark the above page, then come back each day to read the Q&A. In case you missed one, Q&As since the last major update include:

  • How fast is the MacBook compared to the MacBook Pro?
  • Does Apple provide instructions on how to upgrade the processor and hard drive in the MacBook?
  • How do you upgrade the RAM in the MacBook?
  • What is the MacBook battery life in "real-world" tests? How does it compare to the MacBook Pro?
  • How does the MacBook keyboard "feel"?
  • What exactly is a glossy display? Is the glossy display used in the MacBook better or worse than the previous iBook display?
  • What are the differences between the three MacBook models?
  • What are the differences between the new MacBook and the MacBook Pro?
  • Are ExpressCard/34 media card readers available for the MacBook Pro?
  • How much faster does Quake 4 run on Intel-based Macs now that it's been made Universal?
  • Does FileMaker Pro run on the Intel-based Macs? When will it be available as a "Universal" application?
  • Are there any modern web browsers for MacOS 9?
  • Is there anyway to add a Firewire "800" port to the MacBook Pro 15" systems?
  • How can I move my iPod music from my old computer to my new one?
  • With Windows XP on a MacBook Pro, how do you click as if you had a second mouse button? What is the substitute for Ctrl-Alt-Delete?
  • Is there anything that I can do to make my MacBook Pro run cooler?
  • Among the currently shipping Macs, which ones are capable of running MacOS 9/Classic applications?
  • Will an external SATA adapter become available for the MacBook Pro? If so, when?
  • Will games that say an ATI Radeon or NVIDIA GeForce graphics card is required run on the Intel-based Mac mini "Core" systems?
