The Apple iPod U2 Special Edition (with Color Display) is internally identical to the 20 GB configuration of the iPod (with Color Display), but shipped in a special edition case with a black front, a red "ClickWheel", and a stainless steel back with laser etched signatures of the U2 band members. Like the original iPod U2 Special Edition, this U2 themed configuration shipped with an "exclusive" U2 poster, a US$50-off coupon for "The Complete U2" downloadable "box set", and the standard white iPod earbuds. It cost US$30 more.
It uses a 20 GB 4200 RPM ATA-66 hard drive, capable of supporting "up to" 5000 songs, in "128-Kbps AAC format", as well as "up to" 20,000 photographs in iPod viewable format.
This model supports viewing photographs, optionally with synchronized music, on the internal display and on a television or projector using an AV cable via the custom headphone jack that is capable of video output (line out and S-video provided by the dock, which along with the AV cable, was sold separately). It also offers up to 15 hours of music playback and 5 hours of slideshows with music, although when compared to the iPod (4th Gen), the skip protection is reduced from 25 minutes to 17 minutes.
All iPod (with Color Display) models, including the U2 configuration, are capable of immediately viewing many types of images transferred through the optional iPod Camera Connector (US$29).
