Apple Power Mac G4 The Apple Power Macintosh G4/500 DP (Gigabit Ethernet) features dual 500 MHz PowerPC 7400 (G4) processors each with the AltiVec "Velocity Engine" vector processing unit and 1 MB of backside cache. It shipped configured with 256 MB of RAM, a 40 GB Ultra ATA/66 hard drive, a 5X DVD-ROM or DVD-RAM drive, and a 2X AGP ATI Rage 128 Pro graphics card with 16 MB of SDRAM. AirPort (802.11b) was available by custom configuration.

In addition to the onboard 10/100/1000Base-T (Gigabit) Ethernet port for which they are named, the Power Macintosh G4 (Gigabit Ethernet) models introduced the convenient, but subsequently maligned, ADC (Apple Display Connector), which carries analog and digital video signals, USB data, and power in the same cable. It also shipped with a new Apple "Pro" keyboard and mouse.

There are two configurations of this model, M7893LL/A, as originally introduced with a DVD-RAM drive for US$3499, and M8250LL/A, introduced with a DVD-ROM drive for US$3199.

All Power Macintosh G4 (Gigabit Ethernet) models use a case design effectively the same as that introduced with the Power Macintosh G3 (Blue & White) -- complete with a fold down door on the side that makes upgrading very easy -- but is clad in a more conservative "graphite" and white color scheme. Custom configurations also were available.
