All Apple Watch Models
The Apple Watch Series 2 models were promoted as "the ultimate device for a healthy life" with greater focus on health-related functionality than the original models. However, like their predecessors, all Apple Watch Series 2 devices are controlled with a "Digital Crown" and a Force Touch capable display and need to be paired with an iPhone 5 or newer for most functionality.
All Apple Watch Series 2 models have a dual core processor, water resistance to 50 meters, and built in GPS capabilities. This particular Apple Watch Series 2 model, in the 42 mm size, features a 312x390 display with strengthened, lightweight "Ion-X glass" for configurations with 7000 series anodized aluminum housings and even stronger sapphire crystal for configurations with 316L stainless steel housings.
Battery life is an Apple estimated "up to 18 hours" overall, but more specifically "up to 3 hours" of talk time, "up to 6.5 hours" of audio playback, and "up to 8 hours" working out.
There originally were sixteen specific configurations of this Apple Watch Series 2 (42 mm) that vary by housing material, housing color, and band. It initially was available with a silver colored aluminum case and a white fluoroelastomer rubber "Sport Band;" a gold colored aluminum case and a brown "cocoa" fluoroelastomer rubber "Sport Band;" a rose gold colored aluminum case and a dark "Midnight Blue" fluoroelastomer rubber "Sport Band;" a dark "Space Gray" colored aluminum case and a black fluoroelastomer rubber "Sport Band;" a silver colored aluminum case and a gray "pearl" woven nylon band; a gold colored aluminum case and a brown "toasted coffee/caramel" woven nylon band (pictured, left); a rose gold colored aluminum case with a "Space Orange/Anthracite" woven nylon band; a "Space Gray" aluminum case with a black woven nylon band; a stainless steel case with a white fluoroelastomer rubber "Sport Band;" a "Space Black" stainless steel case with a black fluoroelastomer rubber "Sport Band;" a stainless steel case with a "Saddle Brown" classic buckle band; a stainless steel case with a Midnight Blue Leather Loop (pictured, right); a stainless steel case with a Milanese Loop; a stainless steel case with a link bracelet; a Space Black stainless steel case with a Space Black Milanese Loop; and finally, a Space Black stainless steel case with a Space Black link bracelet.
On March 21, 2017, Apple substantially pared back the number of standard configurations to eight total, eliminating all of the nylon band, buckle, leather loop, and link bracelet options and replacing the gold colored aluminum case and brown "cocoa" fluoroelastomer rubber "Sport Band" as well as the rose gold colored aluminum case and dark "Midnight Blue" fluoroelastomer rubber "Sport Band" options with rose gold colored aluminum case and light "Pink Sand" fluoroelastomer rubber "Sport Band" and gold colored aluminum case and dark "Midnight Blue" fluoroelastomer rubber "Sport Band" options. Apple continued to sell a variety of nylon band, buckle, leather loop, and link bracelet bands separately, but these no longer were offered as default configurations.
