What removable storage is available for the eMac?

No internal removable storage can be added to any eMac models. However, most eMac models at least have internal CD-RW capability and some have DVD-R(W) capability as well. However, the M8655LL/A and /B education-only configurations of the eMac G4/700 and the eMac G4/800 (ATI) only have CD-ROM drives.

Regardless of the stock internal optical drive, you also can attach an external USB or FireWire-based removable storage drive to the eMac, such as a CD-RW drive, DVD-R drive, hard drive, or disk drive if needed.

What ports are provided by the eMac?

For exhaustive details regarding the ports for each eMac system, please refer to the ports pages for the original eMac, eMac (ATI), eMac (USB 2.0), and eMac (2005) models.

What is Bluetooth? How can I add Bluetooth to an eMac model that doesn't support internal Bluetooth?

Apple reports that Bluetooth is:

A cutting-edge open specification that enables short-range wireless connections between desktop and notebook computers, personal digital assistants, mobile phones, camera phones, printers, digital cameras, keyboards and even a computer mouse. Bluetooth wireless technology uses a globally available frequency band (2.4GHz) for worldwide compatibility.
In a nutshell, Bluetooth technology unplugs your digital peripherals and makes cable clutter a thing of the past. . . You can link your Palm OS-based handheld device, mobile phone and other peripherals with Bluetooth technology -- and do it wirelessly, within a 30-foot range.

The eMac G4/1.25 (USB 2.0) and G4/1.42 (2005) support internal Bluetooth 1.1, but neither had it installed by default. To add Bluetooth to eMac models that do not support internal Bluetooth or do not have it installed, it is easy to use a USB Bluetooth dongle.

A number of Bluetooth dongles once were available; site sponsor Other World Computing might still have a vintage option or two.

What is AirPort? How much faster is AirPort Extreme? Which eMac models support AirPort and which support AirPort Extreme?

AirPort (802.11b) provides a maximum wireless data rate of 11 megabits per second, and AirPort Extreme (802.11g) provides a maximum wireless data rate of 54 megabits per second, which is five times faster. AirPort Extreme is backwards-compatible with AirPort, and works in much the same way. However, it is worth noting that at 54 megabits per second, the "Base Station range" is only 50 feet, whereas the range is 150 feet at 11 megabits per second.

The original eMac G4/700 and G4/800 support AirPort (802.11b) and all subsequent eMac models support AirPort Extreme (802.11g). No eMac models were configured with wireless networking by default but every model could be configured with wireless networking as an optional upgrade at the time of purchase.

What type of modem is standard with the eMac models?

All eMac models, with the exception of the education-only M8655LL/A and /B configurations of the original eMac G4/700, shipped with an internal modem. The original eMac G4/700 and G4/800 systems shipped with an internal 56k v.90 modem and all subsequent models shipped with an internal 56k v.92 modem.
