Promoted as an upgrade to the original HomePod mini primarily because of its support for "a profoundly more capable and conversational Siri AI," although, ironically, the software was not actually available at the time the HomePod mini 2 was introduced.
The HomePod mini 2 is a tiny, spherical wireless "smart speaker" for use with recent iPhone and iPad devices; Siri AI requires it to be paired with an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad, as well. It also can be paired with the Apple TV 4K (4th Gen) to offer four speaker surround sound for a television or serve as the default speaker for recent Macs with Wi-Fi 6E or newer.
Available in white, blue, green, pink, and a "Midnight" black color, the HomePod mini 2 uses "computational audio for real-time tuning" and provides a "full-range driver and dual passive radiators for deep bass and crisp high frequencies."
The HomePod mini 2 is designed to work primarily with Siri AI for voice interaction, but it also has a round display on the top with touch-sensitive controls for volume, track control, and Siri activation. This display "glows and pulses in sync with music," too.
Internally, the Apple HomePod mini 2 is powered by an Apple S10 processor (SiP), and supports Wi-Fi 6E (802.11ax) as well as "peer-to-peer discovery for easy guest access", Bluetooth 6, Thread networking, and Ultra Wideband for "device proximity" detection.
