Which iMac G5 models can be wall mounted? Are these models VESA compliant?

All "pre-iSight" iMac G5 models are VESA compliant and officially can be wall mounted.

For readers who may not be familiar with the term "VESA compliant", VESA is an acronym for "Video Electronics Standards Association". In an informative page, Ergo In Demand (no longer online) noted that when it refers to LCD or flat panel monitors:

'VESA standard' means a hole pattern on the back of the monitor: 3" x 3" or 4" x 4" (75 mm x 75 mm or 100 mm x 100 mm). The diameter of the screws are 4 mm. . . The four holes may be centered or are located on the lower edge of the monitor. With some models you might have to remove the original stand (if the electronic is not located in the foot) before you will see the 4 holes.

If you are interested in in-depth information, the VESA website also provides summaries of the organization's standards.

In other words, the following iMac G5 models are VESA compliant:

The non-VESA compliant iMac G5 "iSight" models -- the iMac G5/1.9 17-Inch (iSight) and G5/2.1 20-Inch (iSight) -- also can be mounted on a wall or articulating arm by using a third-party product.

Can I use the "remote holder" on the iMac G5 "iSight" to hold an iPod?

No. Although it might be tempting to use the magnetic "grip" mounted on the lower righthand side of the iMac G5 "iSight" models to hold an iPod, this is designed exclusively for use by the six-button Apple Remote.

The User's Guide (PDF) warns that this portion of the system "contains a small magnet to rest your Apple Remote when it's not in use. To preserve the data on an external hard disk, memory card, iPod, or other magnetic media, avoid bringing them close to the magnet."
