What are all the differences between the iPhone SE 3 models? How many are there around the world?

It would be easy to assume that the iPhone SE 3rd Gen -- commonly referred to as the iPhone SE 3 -- options only differ by color and capacity, but there actually are four different models that originally are sold in different locations around the world. Each iPhone SE 3 is offered in three color choices and three capacities.

To make these devices easier to differentiate, Everyi.com more specifically refers to the iPhone SE 3 models as the iPhone SE (3 - 4.7" 2022 US/CA A2595), iPhone SE (3 - 4.7" 2022 Japan A2782), iPhone SE (3 - 4.7" 2022 Global A2783), and iPhone SE (3 - 4.7" 2022 China A2785).

For now, it is unlikely to find more than one iPhone SE 3 in the same place, but as they bounce around the world on the used market, it will be important to understand the differences in network support and SIM compatibility, which are significant. Understanding the similarities among the four iPhone SE 3 models is worthwhile, also.

External Similarities & Differences

All four iPhone SE 3 models use the same external case design -- essentially identical to the iPhone 8 and iPhone SE 2 before it -- mostly made from "low carbon" aluminum with a glass front and back. They are splash, water, and dust-resistant to the IP67 standard (maximum depth of 1 meter up to 30 minutes), but not fully waterproof.

The iPhone SE 3 also supports "wireless" -- or more precisely inductive -- charging capability and it also has stereo speakers, a Lightning port, a side-mounted Nano SIM access panel on the right side, and a solid state "clickless" Home button with integrated "Touch ID" fingerprint capability.

The US/Canada/Mexico/Saudi Arabia (A2595), Japan (A2782), and Global (A2783) iPhone SE 3 models support dual SIMs -- one physical Nano SIM and one digital eSIM -- but the model sold in mainland China (A2785) only supports a single Nano SIM.

The iPhone SE 3 models all have the same two cameras. On the front is a 7 megapixel camera (f/2.2 aperture) with support for still photos and 1080p video. It has software support for "Deep Fusion" image processing but does not support Face ID. The rear camera is a single lens 12 megapixel wide angle camera (f/1.8 aperture) that also supports "Deep Fusion" and takes still photos as well as 4K photos and video.

Additionally, the iPhone SE 3 devices have the same 4.7" multitouch True Tone "Retina HD" display (1334x750, 326 ppi, 625 cd/m2 max brightness, 1400:1 contrast ratio). They support haptic touch, but do not support 3D touch.

All models have a black glass front and a glass back offered in three color options -- Midnight, Starlight, and (PRODUCT) RED.

Identification Differences

It can be a challenge to differentiate between the iPhone SE 3 and earlier and later iPhone models, particularly because there are no specific external identifiers.

However, one relatively simple way to uniquely identify the iPhone SE 3 models is by the Model Number listed on the cardboard shipping box and within the iOS "Settings" app.

For the purpose of this Q&A, as diligently hand-documented by Everyi.com, it is sufficient to note that the following model numbers refer to these devices:

iPhone Model

Model No

iPhone SE (3 - 4.7" 2022 US/CA)

A2595

iPhone SE (3 - 4.7" 2022 Japan)

A2782

iPhone SE (3 - 4.7" 2022 Global)

A2783

iPhone SE (3 - 4.7" 2022 China)

A2785

EveryiPhone.com's Ultimate iLookup feature also can precisely identify these iPhone models by Order Number (referred to as "Model" within the iOS "Settings" app under General > About), as well.

Wireless Connectivity & Data Differences

All four iPhone SE 3 models support 5G NR bands n1, n2, n3, n5, n7, n8, n12, n20, n25, n28, n30, n38, n40, n41, n48, n66, n77, n78, and n79; FDD‑LTE bands 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 12, 13, 17, 18, 19, 20, 25, 26, 28, 30, 32, and 66; TD‑LTE bands 34, 38, 39, 40, 41, 42, 46, and 48; as well as UMTS/HSPA+/DC‑HSDPA (850, 900, 1700/2100, 1900, 2100 MHz), GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz), 802.11ax Wi-Fi 6 with 2x2 MIMO, and Bluetooth 5.0.

To reiterate, the US/Canada/Mexico/Saudi Arabia (A2595), Japan (A2782), and Global (A2783) iPhone SE 3 models support dual SIMs -- one physical Nano SIM and one digital eSIM -- but the model sold in mainland China (A2785) only supports a single Nano SIM.

Internal & Battery Life Similarities

All four iPhone SE 3 models use a 3.2 GHz "A15 Bionic chip" with a 64-bit architecture as well as a "16-core Neural Engine," have 4 GB of RAM, and the option of 64, 128, or 256 GB of flash storage. They each have an NFC (Near Field Communication) chip with reader mode to allow digital payments in conjunction with "Apple Pay" software, too.

All iPhone SE 3 models provide as much as 50 hours of audio playback, 15 hours of video playback, and 10 hours of streamed video playback.

iOS Support Similarities

All iPhone SE 3 models originally shipped with iOS 15. They are not compatible with earlier versions of the operating system. They now ship with the current version of the iOS -- iOS 16 -- although they do not support the minor Accessibility Detection and improved Depth of Field features.
