Apple 11-Inch MacBook AirThe Apple MacBook Air "Core 2 Duo" 1.6 11" (Late 2010) originally was offered as a "configure-to-order" option for the MacBook Air "Core 2 Duo" 1.4 11" (Late 2010), but it later was sold as a standard configuration, too. Other than processor, this model is identical to the MC506LL/A configuration of the MacBook Air "Core 2 Duo" 1.4 11" (Late 2010) and both were offered with 128 GB of flash storage as shipped.

The Apple MacBook Air "Core 2 Duo" 1.6 11" (Late 2010) is powered by a 1.6 GHz Intel "Core 2 Duo" processor (SU9600) with two independent processor "cores" on a single chip with a 3 MB on-chip shared level 2 cache running on a 800 MHz frontside bus.

It features 2 GB of onboard 1066 MHz DDR3 SDRAM (which could be upgraded to 4 GB only at the time of purchase, although 4 GB was standard for the MC906LL/A configuration), 128 GB of flash storage, a NVIDIA GeForce 320M "graphics processor with 256 MB of DDR3 SDRAM shared with main memory", an integrated "FaceTime" video camera, a non-backlit full-size keyboard (the function keys are smaller, however) and an 11.6" widescreen TFT LED backlit active-matrix "glossy" display (1366x768 native resolution) in a razor thin (0.11-0.68 inch), 2.3 pound, aluminum case.

Connectivity includes AirPort Extreme (802.11a/b/g/n), Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, dual USB 2.0 ports, analog audio out, and video out capabilities (Mini DisplayPort) that support an external 30" display. It lacks internal Ethernet (an external adapter was available as a US$29 upgrade) and lacks Firewire and optical audio in/out as well.

The MacBook Air "Core 2 Duo" 1.6 11" (Late 2010) uses a completely new housing compared to earlier MacBook Air models -- with an 11.6" display and an "inertial" multitouch trackpad -- but also is notable for internal differences as well. Internally, it has onboard RAM and lacks an optical drive, just like its predecessors, but also has flash storage that is not intended to be upgraded after purchase and multiple internal battery cells that likewise are not designed to be replaced. Apple touts that the flash storage makes it possible for this MacBook Air model to offer "instant on" responsiveness and up to 30 days of standby time as well as a thinner housing and improved battery life.

It is not compatible with macOS Mojave (10.14) or later versions of the operating system.

Apple originally announced that the Power Nap feature -- first introduced with OS X 10.8 "Mountain Lion" -- also worked with this model, as first discovered by site sponsor OWC, Apple quietly dropped support for the feature on this Mac because it works inconsistently. OS X Mountain Lion, Mavericks, and Yosemite also do not support AirPlay Mirroring on this model (which additionally requires an Apple TV 2nd Gen or later).

When booting Mac OS X 10.6 "Snow Leopard," it is not supported booting into 64-bit mode, either. However, it does support "OpenCL" and Grand Central Dispatch.

Please additionally note that OS X "Lion" 10.7 and subsequent versions of OS X are not capable of running Mac OS X apps originally written for the PowerPC processor as these operating systems do not support the "Rosetta" environment. To run PowerPC applications on this Mac, it will be necessary to use Mac OS X 10.6 "Snow Leopard."
