How do you upgrade the RAM in the PowerBook G3 models? How much RAM of what type do these systems support?

Specifics regarding the memory for each PowerBook G3 model is provided on the specs page for every system, but general information regarding the type of SO-DIMM memory modules, number of memory slots, and actual maximum supported RAM also are provided below.

Please note that just because RAM meets the minimum listed criteria does not mean that it will necessarily function as intended in a particular Mac. When buying memory, be sure to buy from a quality vendor that has tested their RAM with your Mac to ensure compatibility.

Direct links to compatible memory from site sponsor Other World Computing -- as well as memory installation instructions from Apple, iFixit, PowerBookMedic [no longer online], and ApfelKlinik -- have been integrated into the specifications table for your convenience.

† The original PowerBook G3 supports a unique 60 ns EDO DIMM memory module. Apple notes that some RAM cards for the PowerBook 3400 will work in this model, but not all. Please ensure compatibility before purchase.

* Please note that Apple officially supports less memory than this in these systems. However, third-parties have successfully upgraded the memory to these capacities. Please refer to the appropriate specs pages for details.
