PowerBook G4 Q&A - Revised February 19, 2009

To be notified of new Q&As, sign up for EveryMac.com's bimonthly email list.

How do you upgrade the RAM in the PowerBook G4 models? How much RAM of what type do these systems support?

Specifics regarding the memory for each PowerBook G4 model is provided on the specs page for every system, but general information regarding the type of SO-DIMM modules, number of memory slots, and maximum supported RAM also are provided below.

Please note that just because RAM meets the minimum listed criteria does not mean that it will necessarily function as intended in a particular Mac. When buying memory, be sure to buy from a quality vendor that has tested their RAM with your Mac to ensure compatibility.

Direct links to compatible memory from site sponsor Other World Computing -- as well as memory installation instructions from Apple -- have been integrated into the specifications table for your convenience. OWC has helpful installation videos for the 15-Inch Titanium and Aluminum models that you may also wish to view.
