June 15, 2009

This update of EveryMac.com features complete specs (and a handful of Q&As) on the more affordable new 13-Inch, 15-Inch, and 17-Inch MacBook Pro models, the dramatically less expensive new MacBook Air models, and preliminary specs on the new iPhone 3G S. The White MacBook Q&A also has been updated completely to cover the latest inexpensive entry-level MacBook.

Additionally, the "By Year", "By Processor","By Case Type", and "By Capability" Mac specification listings have been updated and the "Ultimate Mac Comparison" has been updated as well.

The latest notebook Macs are faster but cost less than their predecessors. In general, these systems represent an excellent value but there are some trade-offs as well and EveryMac.com makes it easy to sort out all of the details and pick the best new or used Mac for your needs.

For those interested in saving money, site sponsor Adorama sells all of the new Macs free of sales tax and with free shipping (and has deep discounts on the just discontinued Macs as well), and site sponsor Other World Computing sells quality memory and hard drive upgrades for the new Macs often for hundreds of dollars less than Apple charges.

The White MacBook Q&A answers "What are the differences between the White 'Mid-2009' MacBook and the 'Mid-2009' 13-Inch MacBook Pro models?" and "How do you upgrade the RAM in the 'White' MacBook? How much RAM of what type does it support?" and everything in between about the cheapest new Mac notebook on offer.

In case you missed one, Q&As since the last major update include:

  • What are the differences between the White "Mid-2009" MacBook Core 2 Duo and the "Mid-2009" 13-Inch MacBook Pro models?
  • What are the differences between the "Mid-2009" 17-Inch MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo and the "Early 2009" MacBook Pro notebook that it replaced?
  • What are the differences between the "SD - Mid-2009" 15-Inch MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo models and the "Late 2008/Unibody" MacBook Pro notebooks that they replaced?
  • What are the differences between the "SD/Firewire 800 - Mid-2009" 13-Inch MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo models and the "Late 2008/Unibody" non-Pro MacBook notebooks that they replaced?
  • What are the differences between the "Mid-2009" 13-Inch, 15-Inch, and 17-Inch MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo models?
  • How do you upgrade the hard drive in the "White and Black" MacBook?
  • How do you upgrade the RAM in the "White and Black" MacBook? How much RAM of what type does it support?
  • How fast is the White "Mid-2009" MacBook Core 2 Duo compared to the White "Early 2009" MacBook that it replaced? How fast is it compared to the "Late 2008 Unibody" MacBook Core 2 Duo models?
  • What is the "White and Black" MacBook battery life in "real-world" tests? How does the battery life of different MacBook models compare to one another?
