This update of EveryMac.com features new iPad Q&As to cover additional iPad details, a comprehensive overhaul of the Power Mac G3 Q&A, and new and dramatically improved search functionality. More serial numbers have been added to the Ultimate Mac Lookup as well.

Largely for those interested in maintaining one for "legacy" use, the Power Mac G3 Q&A has been completely overhauled to answer "How do you replace or upgrade the optical drive in the Power Mac G3 models? Can these Macs support DVD-R?" and "How can you visually differentiate between a Revision 1 and 2 'Blue & White' Power Mac G3 model?" along with many other questions about these vintage Macs.

EveryMac.com's all new search functionality is powered by Google and results are much more accurate and comprehensive than before. Give it a try!

In addition, EveryMac.com's Ultimate Mac Lookup has been updated with additional serial numbers. If you haven't already, lookup your Mac, iPod, and iPhone by their serial numbers. If your serial number isn't included, please send it in. Thank you.

In case you missed one, a selection of Q&As since the last major update include:

  • How does the iPad compare to the MacBook and MacBook Air? Which one is right for my needs?
  • How does the iPad compare to the Amazon Kindle 2, Kindle DX and B&N nook? Which one is right for my needs?
  • What is Micro SIM? How is it different from a regular SIM card? Does the iPad have a SIM card?
  • What versions of the MacOS do the Power Mac G3 models support? Can they all boot MacOS 9? What is the maximum supported version of MacOS X?
  • How can you visually differentiate between a Revision 1 and Revision 2 "Blue & White" Power Mac G3 model?
  • Is there any way to add AirPort to a Power Mac G3 model?
  • How do you upgrade the processor in the Power Mac G3 models? How are the Power Mac G3 processors mounted?
  • How do you upgrade the RAM in the Power Mac G3 models? How much RAM of what type does the Power Mac G3 actually support?
  • How do you replace or upgrade the hard drive in the Power Mac G3 models? Do these models support "big drives"?
  • How do you replace or upgrade the optical drive in the Power Mac G3 models? What are the capabilities of the default optical drives? Can these Macs support DVD-R?
