June 8, 2011

This month, EveryMac.com features a sitewide update to cover OS X 10.7 "Lion" compatibility information for each Mac in addition to a comprehensive update of the Aluminum iMac Q&A with the latest on the new Thunderbolt-equipped iMac line.

The "Maximum Supported Version of Mac OS X" capability listing has been updated completely with a convenient single page run down of which Macs can support OS X 10.7 "Lion" and which cannot. Details are provided on the specs page for each Mac.

EveryMac.com's Ultimate Mac Comparison also has been updated with OS X 10.7 "Lion" compatibility info for dynamic side-by-side comparison of G3 and later Macs.

The completely updated Aluminum iMac Q&A answers questions from "What are the 'pros and cons' of the Aluminum iMac? Is one right for my needs?" to "How do you upgrade the hard drive in the 'Mid-2011' Aluminum iMac models? Is it even possible?" and everything in between about the latest series.

Additionally, special thanks for all the kind words about EveryMac.com's new "Embed Specs" functionality that makes it quick and easy for an individual to embed an EveryMac.com specs table for a specific Mac in his or her online classified ad or auction listing. It's always greatly appreciated.

In case you missed one, a selection of Q&As since the last major update include:

  • How fast are the "Mid-2011" Aluminum iMac models compared to one another? How much faster are these models than the "Mid-2011" models replaced? How fast are they compared to a Mac Pro?
  • Is it possible to upgrade the processor in the Aluminum iMac models?
  • How do you upgrade the hard drive in the "Late 2009," "Mid-2010" and "Mid-2011" (21.5-Inch and 27-Inch) Aluminum iMac models? What type of storage do they support? Is it even possible to upgrade these models?
  • What type of video processor is provided by the Aluminum iMac systems? Which have dedicated memory? Which have integrated memory? Is it upgradable?
  • What are the differences between the displays used in the Intel-based "Aluminum" and "White" iMac models? What is the viewable angle and the brightness of each?
  • Can you wall mount the Aluminum iMac models? Are they VESA compliant?
  • What are the "pros and cons" of the Aluminum iMac models? Is one right for my needs?
  • Are there any third-party programs to run MacOS 9/Classic applications on Intel Macs?
