This month, EveryMac.com features a complete OS X Lion Q&A, a sitewide update to "Actual Maximum RAM" for G3 and later Macs with new information and additional details, and a great new option to search the site. EveryMac.com's Ultimate Mac Lookup and Ultimate Mac Comparison features have been updated as well.

Now that the operating system is available on a flash drive as well as via download, and the first bug fix also has been released, EveryMac.com has a complete OS X Lion Q&A to help one decide to upgrade now, later, or not at all. Questions answered include "What are the 'pros and cons' of upgrading to OS X Lion? Is it worth it? Are there reasons not to upgrade?" and "What apps are not compatible with OS X Lion? What upgrade or substitution options are available?" and everything in between.

EveryMac.com's "Actual Maximum RAM" for G3 and later Macs also has been updated sitewide with the latest "unofficial" maximum capacities on individual specs pages, on the single-page "rundown" from the By Capability section of the site, and within the Ultimate Mac Comparison feature. More details on limitations and caveats have been added, too.

Additionally, EveryMac.com's Ultimate Mac Lookup feature includes many new serial numbers submitted by readers. Special thanks to those who have contributed information, it's always greatly appreciated.

For those who likewise appreciate the laser-like precision of EveryMac.com's Ultimate Mac Lookup, EveryMac.com is pleased to announce that savvy upstart search engine DuckDuckGo now supports EveryMac.com's Ultimate Mac Lookup with its very own "bang command."

To use the new "!everymac" bang command from DuckDuckGo.com or from within your browser address bar with DuckDuckGo set to the default search engine, simply type !everymac (note the exclamation mark) followed by the precise Mac identifier that you would like to search. DuckDuckGo will send you directly to exact results from EveryMac.com's Ultimate Mac Lookup.

For example, type !everymac iMac11,1, !everymac 2442, or !everymac W88401231AX to retrieve Macs that match the applicable Model Identifier, EMC Number, or Serial Number, respectively. Give it a go!

In case you missed one, a selection of Q&As since the last major update include:

  • Which Macs are compatible with Mac OS X 10.7 "Lion"? Which Macs are not compatible? Can incompatible Macs be "hacked" or upgraded to run Mac OS X 10.7 "Lion"?
  • What applications are not compatible with Mac OS X 10.7 "Lion"? What upgrade or substitute options are available for common incompatible applications?
  • What are the "pros and cons" of upgrading to Mac OS X 10.7 "Lion"? Is it worth it? What are the best reasons to upgrade? Are there reasons not to upgrade?
  • What is "AirDrop"? Which Macs are compatible with the "AirDrop" technology?
  • How do you upgrade to Mac OS X 10.7 "Lion" from Mac OS X 10.6 "Snow Leopard"? Is it possible to upgrade from older versions of Mac OS X?
  • Are there any "hacks" or workarounds to install Mac OS X 10.7 "Lion" from physical media like a DVD-ROM or a flash drive? How do you create a bootable copy of Mac OS X 10.7 "Lion" for troubleshooting?
  • How does the performance of Mac OS X 10.7 "Lion" compare to Mac OS X 10.6 "Snow Leopard" in "real-world" tests?
  • How do you fix the "backwards" scrolling in Mac OS X 10.7 "Lion"? Where are the scrollbars? Is there a way to get the scrollbars to appear by default?
