The "Late 2008" colored iPod shuffle (Second Generation) models are the same as the "Late 2007" iPod shuffle 2G series that they replaced, but use different colored housings that more closely resemble -- but do not duplicate -- those from the "Early 2007/Colors" iPod shuffle 2nd Generation models.
The Late 2008 models were offered in blue, green, pink, and silver, as well as "Special Edition (PRODUCT) RED" -- compared to the models they replaced which were available in light blue, light green, and purple, as well as silver and red. Otherwise, these iPod shuffle models are physically identical.
All iPod shuffle (Second Generation) models use a tiny 1.07 inch tall, 0.98 inch wide, and 0.33 inch deep case including a "clip" that makes it easy to attach the iPod shuffle (2nd Geneation) to a pocket or other piece of clothing.
The iPod shuffle 2nd Generation (Late 2008) models use either 1 GB or 2 GB of flash memory (2 GB configuration discontinued March 11, 2009), supporting 240 or 500 songs, respectively and Apple reports an estimated 12 hours of battery life.
