August 4, 2010

This month, EveryMac.com features preliminary specs (and a handful of Q&As) on the immediately available Core i3, i5 and i7-powered iMac models, the forthcoming Mac Pro models that can be configured with as many as 12 processor cores, and the also forthcoming 27-Inch LED Cinema Display.

Additionally, the Currently Shipping, By Year, By Processor, By Case Type, By Capability, and By Identifier Mac specs listings have been updated and Mac manuals and Mac benchmarks have been updated as well. The Ultimate Mac Comparison and Ultimate Mac Lookup features all have been updated too.

That's not all, however, EveryMac.com also now has a familiar but new "streamlined" interface to improve load time and usability. IE 5 for Windows is no longer supported, but most of the site still is usable for IE 5 for the Mac (those on vintage Macs have a variety of newer browser options as well). Of course, all modern browsers remain fully supported.

For those interested in saving money on a new iMac, site sponsor Adorama sells the latest models free of sales tax and with free shipping (and has the just discontinued models at discounted prices too). To save money on upgrades, OWC has quality memory, hard drives, and SSDs for the new iMac and even a service to add an external eSATA port.

If you buy a new iMac, please send in its serial number. This information will be added to the Ultimate Mac Lookup to help with model identification and differentiation. Thank you very much.

In case you missed one, a selection of Q&As since the last major update include:

  • What are all the differences between the "Mid-2010" Aluminum iMac models?
  • How do the "Mid-2010" Aluminum iMac models compare to the "Late 2009" models that preceded them? What are all the differences?
  • What are the "pros and cons" of the Aluminum iMac models? Is one right for my needs?
  • What are the differences between the displays used in the Intel-based "Aluminum" and "White" iMac models? What is the viewable angle and the brightness of each?
  • Can you wall mount the Aluminum iMac models? Are they VESA compliant?
