July 25, 2011

This update of EveryMac.com features preliminary specs, identifiers, benchmarks and global prices (as well as a handful of Q&As) on the all new MacBook Air and Mac mini models. In addition, preliminary specs on the new Apple Thunderbolt Display and a number of new OS X Lion Q&As have been added.

Likewise, the Currently Shipping, By Year, By Processor, By Case Type, By Capability, and By Identifier Mac specs listings have been updated and Mac Manuals, Mac Benchmarks, and Global Original Mac Prices have been updated, also.

The Ultimate Mac Comparison and Ultimate Mac Lookup features all have been updated, too.

Special thanks for all the kind words by e-mail and on social media about EveryMac.com's 15th anniversary earlier this month. Thank you particularly to those who sent in more identifiers for EveryMac.com's Ultimate Mac Lookup and to one particularly generous reader who made a significant financial contribution as well.

For those interested in saving money on a MacBook Air or Mac mini, site sponsor OWC has used and refurbished models at discount prices, but only while supplies last.

If you buy a new MacBook Air or Mac mini, please send in its serial number. The non-personal information will be added to the Ultimate Mac Lookup to help with model identification and differentiation. Thank you very much.

In case you missed one, a selection of Q&As since the last major update include:

  • What are all the differences between the "Mid-2011" MacBook Air models? Which is ideal for my needs?
  • What are all the differences between the "Mid-2011" MacBook Air models and the "Late 2010" MacBook Air models replaced?
  • What are all the differences between the "Mid-2011" Aluminum "Unibody" Mac mini models? Which is best for me?
  • What are all the differences between the "Mid-2011" Aluminum "Unibody" Mac mini models and the "Mid-2010" models replaced?
  • What applications are not compatible with Mac OS X 10.7 "Lion"? What upgrade or substitute options are available for common incompatible applications?
  • Do Mac OS X applications written for the PowerPC processor really not work with Mac OS X 10.7 "Lion"? How can I tell if a Mac OS X application is written for PowerPC or Intel processors?
  • Which Macs are compatible with Mac OS X 10.7 "Lion"? Which Macs are not compatible? Can incompatible Macs be "hacked" or upgraded to run Mac OS X 10.7 "Lion"?
