October 31, 2011

This update of EveryMac.com features complete specs, identifiers and global prices (in addition to a handful of Q&As) on the new "stealth" MacBook Pro models. Complete specs, identifiers, and benchmarks for the iPhone 4S and white iPod touch now also are available.

Additionally, the Currently Shipping, By Year, By Processor, By Case Type, By Capability, and By Identifier Mac specs listings have been updated and Mac Manuals and Global Original Mac Prices have been updated, also.

The Ultimate Mac Comparison, Ultimate Mac Lookup, and Ultimate Mac Sort features all have been updated, too.

For those interested in saving money on a MacBook Pro, site sponsor OWC has used and refurbished models at discount prices, but only while supplies last.

EveryMac.com also is pleased to note that the site has more than 2000 followers on social media. If you use social media, and you're not already following, please do so. Thank you.

Special thanks to those who sent in their MacBook Pro and iPhone 4S serial numbers. If you buy a new MacBook Pro, iPhone, or iPod, please send in its serial number as well. The non-personal information will be added to EveryMac.com to help with model identification and differentiation. Thank you very much.

New Q&As:

In case you missed one, a selection of Q&As since the last major update include:

  • What are all the differences between the "Late 2011" 13-Inch, 15-Inch, and 17-Inch MacBook Pro models? Which is best for my needs?
  • What are all the differences between the "Late 2011" 13-Inch, 15-Inch, and 17-Inch MacBook Pro models and the "Early 2011" MacBook Pro models that they replaced?
  • How do you upgrade the RAM in the "Mid-2009," "Mid-2010," "Early 2011" and "Late 2011" 13-Inch, 15-Inch, and 17-Inch MacBook Pro models? How much RAM does each actually support?
  • How much faster is the iPhone 4S than the iPhone 4? How does its speed compare to the iPad 2?
  • What is Siri? How well does Siri work in "real world" use? Are hacks available to run Siri on iOS devices other than the iPhone 4S?

Today in Mac History:

If you weren't following along on social media, select dates in Mac History since the last major site update include the following hardware introductions:

  • October 12, 2005: The iMac G5 iSight, the first Mac with an integrated webcam.
  • October 19, 1992: The PowerBook Duo 210, the first "dockable" Mac notebook.
