April 2, 2007

This month, EveryMac.com features a complete Apple TV Q&A and four all new "By Capability" Mac specification listings. The Mac specification "By Processor" and "By Case Type" listings have returned as well, and are even more comprehensive and detailed than before.

The Apple TV Q&A answers questions from "What type of television supports Apple TV? Is Apple TV compatible with HDTV and SDTV?" to "How do you rip DVDs and transfer the movies to Apple TV?" and everything in between.

For all G3 and newer models, the four "By Capability" listings each provide a single page covering AirPort, USB and Firewire, the Maximum Supported MacOS, and MacOS 9/Classic Support, respectively. Complete specs for each system are just a click away.

For example, the AirPort Capability listing provides a single page that shows which Macs support the various standards of AirPort wireless networking -- 802.11b, 802.11g, 802.11a, and 802.11n -- and whether or not AirPort was installed by default. Likewise, the Maximum Supported MacOS listing provides a single page that shows which systems support the latest version of MacOS X and which do not.

You get the idea. It is hoped that you enjoy this major addition and find the site even more useful than before.

In case you missed one, Q&As since the last major update include:

  • What are the differences between the Apple TV and the Mac mini?
  • What audio and video formats does the Apple TV support? Does it support video streaming and purchase directly from the Internet?
  • Does the Apple TV support 5.1 channel surround sound?
  • How do you connect the Apple TV to a television? How do you connect the Apple TV to a Mac or PC?
  • What can you do with the Apple TV USB port? Does it support an input device like a keyboard or mouse? Does it support an external hard drive or an iPod?
  • What operating system does Apple TV use? Does it run MacOS X?
  • Can Apple TV run MacOS X software applications? Can it play iPod games?
