What type of RAM does the Apple Silicon Mac mini use? Can it be upgraded?

All Apple Silicon Mac mini models have "unified" RAM onboard that is integrated with the processor (SoC).

The RAM in the Apple Silicon Mac mini cannot be upgraded after the initial computer purchase, but all models can, or could, be custom configured upfront with more RAM than its default configuration.

Specifically, the standard RAM for each Apple Silicon Mac mini model and the maximum RAM available via custom configuration for that model follow:

1 Apple Silicon Mac mini Models Standard RAM > Maximum RAM 1 Mac mini "M1" 8 CPU/8 GPU 2020 8 GB > 16 GB
1 Mac mini "M2" 8 CPU/10 GPU 2023 8 GB* > 24 GB
1 Mac mini "M2 Pro" 10 CPU/16 GPU 2023 16 GB > 32 GB
1 Mac mini "M2 Pro" 12 CPU/19 GPU 2023 16 GB > 32 GB
1 Mac mini "M4" 10 CPU/10 GPU 2024 16 GB, 24 GB* > 32 GB**
1 Mac mini "M4 Pro" 12 CPU/16 GPU 2024 24 GB* > 64 GB
1 Mac mini "M4 Pro" 14 CPU/20 GPU 2024 24 GB* > 64 GB**
1 Mac mini "M5 Pro" 15 CPU/16 GPU 2026 24 GB* > 64 GB
1 Mac mini "M5 Pro" 18 CPU/20 GPU 2026 24 GB* > 64 GB
1 Mac mini "M6" 12 CPU/12 GPU 2026 16 GB, 24 GB* > 32 GB

To reiterate, no Apple Silicon Mac mini models have RAM that can be upgraded after the initial purchase of the computer.

Mac Identification may be helpful, as well.
